🪔 About Vishu Kani

As part of the Malyali New Year celebrations, several rituals and festivities are observed. Vishu Kani is prominent among them.

The word 'Kani' means 'the first sight'. In Kerala, there is a tradition of setting up a special altar, called the Vishu Kani, on the morning of the new year. Auspicious items, such as fresh fruits (coconut, jackfruit, and mango), flowers, a mirror, coins, a lamp, and an image of Lord Krishna and other deities, are kept on the altar.

The idea is for family members to see these items as the first thing at dawn, as they are said to bring prosperity and good fortune in the coming year.

Invite the grace of Sri Krishna on this beautiful day of Vishu!
