🪔 About The Start of Shraavan Maas
The sacred month of Shraavan (dedicated to Lord Shiv) has arrived. The Kanwar Yatra begins today. Devotees collect water from the sacred Ganga using their Kanwar (a horizontal bamboo pole to balance and hold a pot of water on either end) and bring it back to their native towns to perform a Gangajal Abhishekam (water offerings from the Ganga) on a Shiva Lingam. People also make pilgrimages to the 12 Jyotirlingas, specifically to Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, Jharkhand. Lord Shiv sits here as the cosmic healer. Har Har Mahadev!
